Chapter 5 - The General's DebtThe silence in the courtroom was suffocating. Every eye drifted back and forth between the weeping, cornered mother-and-son duo and me, sitting quietly at the defense table.

General Thorne walked slowly toward the center of the room, stopping just a few feet away from where I sat. To the absolute shock of everyone present, the four-star general snapped to attention and executed a sharp, flawless military salute in my direction.
"Captain Vance," Thorne said, his voice ringing with deep, unwavering reverence. "The United States Army remembers its own. You took the fall for a classified operation in 2021 to protect your unit from international fallout. You carried the weight of treason charges and a forged family betrayal because your father begged you to keep the company safe from within."
He lowered his hand, his eyes shining with unexpressed emotion. "Debt's paid, Captain. The Pentagon has officially declassified your record as of 12:00 PM today. You are completely exonerated."
I slowly stood up from my chair, buttoning the front of my jacket. I looked across the aisle at my mother, the woman who had happily traded her own flesh and blood for corporate greed and prison immunity.
"Thank you, General," I said quietly.
I turned my gaze to Julian, who was now sobbing into his hands, realizing that his life of luxury, privilege, and arrogance had officially come to a catastrophic end.
"You always thought you were the smart one, Julian," I said, my voice echoing coldly in the quiet courtroom. "You thought because Dad raised me to take the hits, I wouldn't know how to strike back when it mattered most."

Judge Harrison slammed his gavel down with a deafening crack.
"Bail is denied for both defendants," the judge declared fiercely, glaring at Evelyn and Julian. "Federal marshals, take them into custody immediately. Court is adjourned!"
