Chapter 7 - THE REPOSSESSION AT THE DINEROn a humid Tuesday afternoon, Carmen and Daniel were sitting in a run-down diner on the industrial outskirts of Monterrey, nursing lukewarm coffee and stale pastries—a fittingly ironic menu considering their history.

Their lives had devolved into absolute chaos. Evicted from their cheap motel for non-payment, staying on a cousin's lumpy sofa, and facing total social ostracization, their arrogant facade had completely crumbled.
Outside the greasy window of the diner, a flatbed tow truck pulled up smoothly.
Two men in official uniforms stepped out, accompanied by a court bailiff and local police officers.
Carmen dropped her coffee cup. It shattered across the linoleum floor, dark liquid splashing against her worn-out shoes.
"What... what are they doing?!" Carmen shrieked, jumping up from the booth.
She rushed out the glass door, followed closely by Daniel, waving her arms frantically as the tow truck winch hooked onto the front bumper of her prized luxury SUV—the very vehicle purchased with my stolen money.
"Stop! You can't touch this car! This is my personal property!" Carmen screamed at the bailiff, her voice cracking with hysteria.
The bailiff calmly handed her an official court-sealed document.
"Seizure order pursuant to civil case number 489/2026, issued by the Superior Court of Nuevo León at the direct request of Mrs. Mariana Fuentes," the bailiff recited monotonously. "This vehicle was purchased using fraudulently diverted marital and corporate funds. It is hereby attached by the court pending final asset liquidation."
"Mariana did this?!" Daniel roared, his face turning purple with rage as he grabbed the paper from his mother's trembling hands. "She can't do this! I am her husband!"
"Not for much longer, sir," the police officer intervened, resting a hand calmly on his holster. "And I advise you to step away from the vehicle before you add obstruction of justice to your growing list of charges."

Carmen let out a piercing wail of pure agony, collapsing onto the dusty pavement of the diner parking lot as the tow truck lifted her beloved SUV off the ground and drove away, leaving her sitting in the dirt.
For the first time in her life, Carmen Fuentes understood what it meant to have nothing.
