Chapter 13 - Blood on the Crane"Move! Move!" Luca yelled over the deafening chatter of automatic gunfire.

We scrambled behind a stack of steel shipping containers as bullets ricocheted off the metal, sending sparks flying into the foggy morning air. My mind raced at a hundred miles an hour. Vance was dead. The Chicago syndicate knew about Emma. They weren't just coming for my empire anymore—they were coming for my home.

"Luca, get the backup team on the secure satellite channel!" I barked over the noise, drawing my customized Sig Sauer from my shoulder holster. "Find out who's running that crane!"

"Boss, it's not Chicago!" Luca shouted, squinting through his binoculars at the top of the towering gantry crane two hundred yards away. "It's a clean team! Professional mercenaries! Look at the markings on their gear—they're the Ghost Squad!"

The Ghost Squad. An elite black-ops unit of ex-military assassins that even the CIA pretended didn't exist. Dominic must have activated them as a dead-man’s switch months ago, setting a timer that only a secondary code could stop.

"They're targeting the estate," I realized with a jolt of pure terror. "Vance was just a distraction to pull us down to the docks!"

Without hesitation, I grabbed Luca by the flak jacket. "Forget the perimeter here! Get the armored Suburban. We're going home—now!"

We didn't wait for the rest of the crew. We bolted across the open tarmac, diving into the reinforced vehicle just as a rocket-propelled grenade vaporized the container stack we had been hiding behind.
