Chapter 19 - The Unbreakable BondI walked down the stone steps onto the lawn, the morning breeze carrying the sweet scent of blooming tulips.

When Isabella saw me coming, she stopped running, scooped up the red ball, and sprinted straight toward me. She didn't limp. She didn't hesitate. Her legs moved with the fierce, unstoppable grace of a child reclaiming her entire world.

Emma walked over, holding her crooked red wool cap in her hands, looking up at us with a wide, toothy grin.

"I told you her legs weren't dead," Emma said wisely, nodding her head. "They were just waiting for the right sunshine."

I crouched down, setting Isabella gently on her feet, and placed a warm hand on Emma's small shoulder.

"You did good, little one," I said softly. "You saved us all."
