Chapter 5 - The Ultimate BetrayalDominic froze, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. He stared at the barrel of the gun aimed dead-center at his sternum by the man he thought was his most loyal dog.

"L-Luca?" Dominic stammered, sweat beading on his forehead. "What is the meaning of this? I pay you double what Dante gives you!"
Luca lowered his sunglasses slightly, revealing cold, dead eyes.
"You pay well, Dominic," Luca replied smoothly. "But Dante didn't just buy my loyalty. Ten years ago, when my sister was dying of cancer in a Swiss hospital, you voted against using syndicate funds to save her. You said it was a bad investment."
Luca glanced over at me, then back at Dominic.
"Dante paid the hospital bill anonymously that very night. He didn't ask for my thanks. He didn't use it to trap me. He just saved a little girl because it was the right thing to do." Luca's finger tightened slightly on the trigger. "A man who forgets his own blood isn't worth following, Dominic. A man who protects his family at all costs is the only one worth dying for."
Dominic fell to his knees, his expensive Italian suit brushing the dusty rug. All the arrogance, all the untouchable power of the underworld boss he thought he was, dissolved into pathetic whimpering.
"Dante... please," Dominic choked out, crawling forward and grabbing the hem of my trousers. "We're brothers! We share the same blood! You can't kill your own flesh and blood!"

I looked down at the man groaning at my feet. For a second, the image of Elena's smiling face flashed in my mind, followed by the memory of Isabella crying in her wheelchair, asking why her legs wouldn't work.
"Blood?" I said coldly, pulling my pant leg away from his desperate grip. "You spilled my wife's blood. You crippled my daughter's childhood. You don't get to invoke family now."
