Chapter 18 - The Unbroken Circle

Two days later, back at the Vane estate headquarters in New York, the sun broke through the clouds, illuminating the sprawling marble courtyard.
The global restructuring papers signed by the Iron Ring had been fully processed. The European black market routes were now entirely under Vane control, making their syndicate the undisputed sovereign power across continents.
In the high council room, the eleven capos sat in absolute, respectful silence.
Leandro sat at the head of the long table, the silver signet ring gleaming under the chandelier light. To his right sat Estelle, her presence commanding and absolute. To his left stood Daphne, her posture relaxed yet watchful.
“The European expansion is complete,” Leandro announced, his voice echoing through the vaulted hall. “Our borders are secure. Our legacy is untouchable.”
One of the senior capos raised his glass. “To the head of the family.”
The entire room echoed the toast in unison.
Later that evening, as twilight settled over the estate, Leandro walked out onto the grand stone balcony overlooking the private gardens.
A soft rustle of silk announced a visitor. He didn’t need to turn around to know who it was.
Maribel stood beside him, leaning against the stone balustrade, looking out over the vast empire they had bled to secure. She wore a simple dark coat, her posture as unyielding as ever.
“You’re leaving,” Leandro stated quietly, noting the packed car idling at the front gates below.
“My work here is done,” Maribel said, not looking at him. “A kingdom can only have one ruler, Leandro. You survived the fire, the chains, and the betrayal. The throne is yours alone.”
Leandro looked down at his hand, tracing the metal of the ring forged from the very chain she had used to try and break him months ago.
“You’ll always be a part of this house, Mother,” Leandro said softly.

Maribel offered a rare, genuine smile—a ghost of warmth in a world built on iron. She turned and walked back toward the doors, pausing just before the threshold.
“Keep the crown heavy, my son,” she murmured, before vanishing into the shadows.
