Chapter 19 - The New Dawn

The heavy oak doors of the council room closed behind the departing guards, leaving only Leandro and Daphne standing near the floor-to-ceiling windows. The city lights of New York twinkled in the distance, a sprawling testament to the empire they now commanded.

Daphne crossed her arms, watching the empty doorway where Maribel had disappeared. “You think she’ll ever truly stay away?”

“No,” Leandro said, a faint, amused smile touching his lips as he poured two glasses of amber whiskey, handing one to her. “But next time she tries to test us, we’ll be ready.”

Daphne took the glass, clinking it gently against his. “To the Vane dynasty.”

“To survival,” Leandro corrected quietly, looking out over the city.

The war of blood and iron was finally over. But in the underworld, peace was never a permanent state—it was merely the calm before the next rise of the tide.
