The judge’s gavel came down with a sharp, echoing crack.
"For multiple counts of wire fraud, grand larceny, corporate embezzlement, and obstruction of justice, this court sentences Julian Sterling to twenty-five years in federal prison without the possibility of parole."
Julian closed his eyes, his knees trembling as federal marshals stepped forward, grabbed him by the shoulders, and led him away through the heavy oak doors.
Seated in the front row of the public gallery, watching quietly alongside Arthur Vance, was Maria. She wore a tailored charcoal suit, her head held high, radiating absolute poise and power.
