Chapter 9 - THE FINAL AUDITOne week after the arrest, Arthur Vance walked into Maria’s office holding a thick manila folder. He placed it gently on her desk.

"First major case file, Maria," Arthur said with an approving smile. "A shell company operating out of Zurich, funneling illegal funds through local real estate. Think you can crack it?"

Maria opened the folder, her sharp eyes scanning the rows of encrypted transaction logs with effortless expertise. A confident smile played on her lips.

"Give me three hours, Mr. Vance," she said smoothly. "I'll trace every single penny back to its source."

Arthur chuckled, nodding in satisfaction. "I have no doubt about that. By the way, the court auction of Sterling Manor concluded this morning."

Maria paused, looking up from the documents. "Oh? Who bought it?"

"A real estate trust," Arthur replied cryptically. "They're turning it into a community center and a scholarship fund for underprivileged students pursuing higher education in forensic science and law."

Maria felt a profound sense of closure wash over her. The place where she had faced her darkest hour had been transformed into a beacon of hope for others. The darkness of the past was truly gone, washed away by the bright, unyielding light of truth and justice.
