Marcus turned his head slightly, studying her profile in the soft glow of the terrace lights. A gentle, affectionate smile touched the corners of his mouth.

“You know, Evelyn,” Marcus said softly, his voice dropping an octave, carrying a subtle warmth that hadn't been there before. “Through all the chaos, the audits, the courtrooms, and the board meetings… standing beside you through every single step of it has been the greatest privilege of my life.”

Evelyn turned to look at him, her dark eyes catching the starlight. She saw no hidden agendas, no echoes of the past, no masks—only genuine respect, loyalty, and a deep, steady affection that had grown organically through the fire of adversity.

“You were my rock when everything else was crumbling, Marcus,” Evelyn replied, her voice soft and sincere. “I don't think I ever properly thanked you for that.”

“You don’t have to thank me,” Marcus murmured, gently raising his glass. “Just promise me one thing.”

“What’s that?”

“That whatever we build next… we build it together.”
