The international expansion of Carter & Vance was no longer just an ambitious corporate goal; it was a reality unfolding on three continents. On a brisk Monday morning in early spring, the global board of directors convened in the newly minted London office, overlooking the misty flow of the River Thames.
Evelyn Carter sat at the center of the polished glass table. Her gray tailored pantsuit and sharp silver accessories projected absolute authority, completely commanding the room.
Marcus Vance slid a comprehensive financial portfolio toward her. “The acquisition of the London architectural studio is fully finalized, Evelyn. All regulatory approvals have cleared without a single hitch. Our European footprint is officially secure.”
Evelyn reviewed the digital signature lines, her eyes sharp and focused. “Good. Make sure the transition team integrates our structural safety protocols into their workflow by the end of the week. We don’t compromise on quality, regardless of the zip code.”
“Already handled,” Marcus replied with a faint, admiring smile. “Though there’s one more item on the agenda that isn't on the official docket. A private invitation.”
Evelyn looked up, raising an eyebrow. “From whom?”
“The Royal Institute of British Architects,” Marcus said, sliding a heavy, cream-colored envelope embossed with gold foil across the table. “They want you to keynote their annual international summit next month. They’re honoring your work on the Chicago Waterfront Park as the architectural project of the decade.”
