Chapter 4 - The Fall of Marcus VanceBefore Elena could recover from the shock of seeing the designer gown destroyed, the heavy glass doors of the showroom suddenly buzzed and unlocked.

A wave of flashing camera lights and hurried footsteps flooded into the lobby. A group of men in sharp, charcoal-gray business suits entered, led by a middle-aged man with sweat pouring down his forehead and sheer panic etched into every line of his face.

It was Marcus Vance—Elena’s father.

Marcus had received an urgent automated alert from his corporate banking app indicating an emergency withdrawal of one hundred and twenty thousand dollars, immediately followed by a synchronized freeze on all corporate credit lines by Sterling Capital's risk management division. Realizing catastrophe was striking, he had rushed directly to his daughter's known shopping location, bringing his chief legal counsel along with him.

"Elena! What in God's name is happening?" Marcus shouted, barging past the security cordon, his eyes wide with disbelief.

When his gaze landed on the scene—his daughter pinned to the floor by tactical guards, her dress ruined, surrounded by terrified socialites and a shattered showroom—his knees nearly buckled.

"Daddy!" Elena cried out, struggling against the guards. "Save me! This psycho—she stole our money, she locked us in, she ruined everything!"

Marcus didn't look at his daughter. His eyes were locked entirely on Maya, who stood calmly by the counter, sipping a cup of sparkling water that Henderson had quietly provided. Standing a few paces behind Maya was a tall, silver-haired man in a bespoke three-piece suit who had just emerged from the private elevator—Harrison Sterling himself.

Marcus staggered forward, his hands trembling as he recognized the billionaire patriarch.

"Mr... Mr. Sterling," Marcus stammered, his voice cracking with sheer terror. "I... I don't understand. What is the meaning of this? Why are your men treating my daughter like a criminal? What have we done to offend you?"

Harrison Sterling did not look at Marcus with anger; his expression was one of profound, chilling indifference. He walked slowly toward the center of the room, adjusting his gold-rimmed glasses, before stopping right in front of the trembling corporate executive.

"Marcus," Harrison said, his voice deep and measured. "For the past three years, my firm has quietly invested in your real estate developments because I believed you were an honest partner. But yesterday, my auditors uncovered something fascinating."

Harrison gestured to his legal counsel, who stepped forward and handed Marcus a thick manila folder stamped with red confidential seals.

"Embezzlement of public housing funds," Harrison continued quietly. "Bribery of municipal inspectors. And, to top it all off, using fraudulent appraisals to secure bank loans against properties your company doesn't even legally own."

Marcus dropped the folder as if it were burning hot coal. The color vanished entirely from his face, leaving him a sickening shade of gray. He fell heavily to his knees right beside his daughter.

"Mr. Sterling... please," Marcus begged, his voice dropping to a desperate, pathetic whisper. "It was a mistake... a temporary cash-flow issue! We can fix this! Give me twenty-four hours—twelve hours! I'll sign over my shares, my properties, anything you want! Just don't destroy Vance Real Estate!"

Harrison turned his head slowly, looking down at Marcus with cold disdain before shifting his gaze to Maya, who stood watching the spectacle with impassive eyes.

"You're asking the wrong person, Marcus," Harrison said smoothly. "Sterling Capital no longer owns your debt. I transferred 100% of the corporate assets, including your company's entire portfolio, to my daughter's personal holding trust this morning as a graduation gift."

Marcus stared in absolute horror. He slowly turned his head to look at Maya, the young woman his daughter had slapped across the face not twenty minutes ago.

"You..." Marcus whispered, his lips trembling violently. "You are... Maya Sterling?"
