Chapter 7 - Ashes and New BeginningsThree days later, the financial headlines across every major global news network dominated the morning broadcasts.

“EMERGENCY TAKEOVER: Sterling Capital Acquires Vance Real Estate Amid Massive Federal Corruption Probe.” “Marcus Vance Arrested; Family Assets Frozen and Placed Under Sterling Trust Management.” “Exclusive Insight: The Untold Story Behind the Billion-Dollar Showroom Acquisition.”

Inside a private, sunlit penthouse overlooking the sprawling skyline of the financial district, Maya sat by the floor-to-ceiling window, sipping a cup of hot jasmine tea. The morning light cast a warm, golden glow across her face, completely illuminating the place where the red handprint had been only days ago. Not a single trace of the bruise remained.

Her phone buzzed continuously on the glass table beside her. It was a relentless stream of text messages, emails, and call requests from high-profile socialites, corporate executives, and distant acquaintances who had previously ignored her or laughed behind her back. Every single one of them was desperately begging for an audience, offering lavish apologies, gifts, and invitations to exclusive galas.

Maya didn't even bother to unlock the screen. With a single, casual swipe, she turned the phone face down, silencing the noise of a shallow world desperately trying to buy back her favor.

The front door of the penthouse unlocked with a soft click, and her father walked in, carrying a thick portfolio of legal documents under his arm. He tossed the folder onto the coffee table with a satisfied grin and sank into the velvet armchair opposite her.

"Well, sweetheart," Harrison said, pouring himself a cup of tea. "The restructuring of Vance Real Estate is officially complete. All remaining capital from their liquidated assets has been successfully redirected into the municipal housing fund we sponsored last year. Low-income families will finally get the homes they were promised."

Maya smiled, a deep, genuine expression of peace settling into her eyes. "Good. That's where the money belonged in the first place."

"And as for Miss Elena Vance," Harrison continued, his tone turning mildly amused, "her defense attorneys have tried every trick in the book to secure bail, but with the ironclad audit trails you provided, every judge in the district has denied release. She's facing up to fifteen years in federal prison for asset concealment and corporate fraud."

Maya looked out the window at the distant horizon, watching the clouds drift lazily across the bright blue sky. She didn't feel joy or malice toward Elena's downfall; she felt only the profound lightness of a chapter firmly closed. Cruelty and arrogance always carried a heavy price tag in the end—some people just needed someone wealthy enough to finally present the bill.

"Let's not talk about them anymore, Dad," Maya said softly, turning her attention back to her father with a bright, luminous smile. "Today is the final fitting for the wedding dress. And I want everything to be perfect."

Harrison laughed heartily, raising his teacup in a silent toast to his brilliant daughter. "Perfection is already guaranteed, Maya. After all... you own the store."
