Chapter 3 - THE SOCIAL MEDIA COUNTER-ATTACK

By that evening, the narrative online had shifted dramatically. Daniel and Vanessa couldn't handle losing their grip on reality quietly; their generation lived for validation, and public sympathy was their last weapon.
Vanessa took to Instagram and TikTok, posting a tear-stained video with the caption: "Cruelty has a name: When a narcissistic mother-in-law steals our home just because we wanted a small, quiet wedding."
The video quickly went viral. Within twelve hours, it had over 200,柏0 views. Vanessa sobbed into the camera, claiming that I had “gifted” them the house, that I was a controlling monster who couldn’t stand to see her son happy, and that I had thrown a newlywed couple onto the streets out of pure, unadulterated malice.
Comments poured in by the thousands:
“What an evil witch! Cut her out of your life forever!”
“Sue her for promissory estoppel! That house legally belongs to you!”
“Stay strong, Daniel! Karma will come for monsters like her!”
Daniel even chimed in, posting a screenshot of the foreclosure notice with the caption: “Raised by a ghost, abandoned by a mother. Some people measure their love in square footage. I’m starting over with a real family who loves me for who I am, not what I own.”

My phone buzzed constantly with text messages from distant relatives, old neighbors, and acquaintances demanding to know if I had lost my mind. My own sister called, shouting, “Eleanor, have you gone senile? The whole internet is calling you a monster! They’re saying you evicted your son on his honeymoon!”
I listened in silence, took a sip of my tea, and replied: “Let them talk. The louder they scream, the harder they fall.”
