Chapter 4 - The Masquerade of Blood

The night of Clara’s 35th birthday arrived not with celebration, but with storm clouds rolling heavy over the Hudson River.

The grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was bathed in gold and crystal light. Hundreds of New York’s elite—politicians, billionaires, and high-society icons—gathered for the annual Vance Global Charity Gala. At the center of it all was Julian Vance, looking like the picture of grieving perfection. He stood near the stage, accepting condolences from guests about his wife's "sudden mental collapse and retreat to a private sanctuary."

"It's tragic," Julian murmured to a group of senators, wiping an invisible tear. "Clara never truly recovered from losing our daughter years ago. The stress... it finally broke her mind."

"A truly tragic loss," Senator Davis agreed, raising a champagne glass. "So, I presume you will be officially stepping in as Chairman of Vance Global at midnight?"

"The board has already voted," Julian smiled smoothly, checking his sleek Patek Philippe watch. 11:45 PM. Fifteen minutes until full legal authority transferred to his name forever.

Suddenly, the massive double doors of the ballroom slammed shut. The ambient classical violin music stopped abruptly.

The high-definition LED screens behind the main stage—which had been displaying promotional videos of Vance Global’s charity work—flickered violently and went black.

The crowd gasped as the lights in the ballroom dimmed to pitch black, leaving only the soft glow of emergency exit signs.

CLICK.

A single spotlight illuminated the grand staircase at the far end of the ballroom.

Descending the stairs in a breathtaking, blood-red velvet dress was Clara Vance. She wore no jewelry except for a single, heavy diamond necklace—and her eyes were lit with a terrifying, unyielding fire. Walking beside her, holding her hand with quiet confidence, was seven-year-old Lily, dressed in a matching emerald gown.

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen," Clara’s voice boomed through the ballroom’s sound system, clear and deadly. "Welcome to my birthday party."

Julian’s face went pale, his composure cracking like thin ice. He frantically gestured to his private security guards hovering near the doors. "Security! Remove her! She is mentally unstable! She’s off her medication!"

"Don't move a single step," Clara warned, raising a small remote control in her hand.

Suddenly, the massive screens behind the stage flickered back to life. But it wasn't a charity video.

It was a crystal-clear, high-definition audio and video recording from seven years ago.

On the screen, a younger Julian stood in a dark hospital room, handing a thick briefcase of cash to a man in a doctor’s coat. The audio echoed loudly across the silent ballroom:

"Take the infant. Deliver her to the border network. Make sure Clara believes the child was born dead. If she ever finds out, you and your family will be buried in the Atlantic."

The ballroom erupted into absolute chaos. Gasps of horror and shouts of disbelief filled the air. High-society elites backed away from Julian as if he were covered in plague.

"That's a fake! A deepfake!" Julian screamed, pulling a gun from his tuxedo jacket as his calm facade completely shattered. "She's trying to ruin me!"

"Is this a deepfake too, Julian?" Clara asked calmly as the screen shifted to a second video.

This video showed Julian pouring a colorless liquid into an elderly man’s glass—Clara’s father—just hours before he suffered his "fatal heart attack."

Julian went completely insane. Pointing the gun directly at Clara’s heart, his eyes wide with unhinged rage, he shrieked, "I built this empire! You were just a spoiled heiress sitting on billions you didn't deserve! I took what was mine!"
