Chapter 11 - THE GHOST IN THE SYSTEM

Two years into his federal sentence, Michael Whitaker discovered a chilling reality: the isolation wasn’t just physical; it was digital.

Working the early morning laundry shift, Michael managed to bribe a corrupt correctional officer with a stolen pack of commissary cigarettes for five minutes of terminal access on an old administrative computer. His fingers, once accustomed to gliding over custom mechanical keyboards in his penthouse, trembled as he typed his own name into the global search engine.

Zero results.

He tried variations: Michael Whitaker embezzlement, Michael Whitaker tech, Michael Whitaker inmate.

Nothing. The internet had completely scrubbed him. It wasn't just that his company had been liquidated; his digital footprint had been systematically wiped clean under a sweeping federal privacy injunction and corporate nondisclosure mandate secured by Arthur Vance.

His social media accounts, his college graduation records, his board memberships, and his wedding photos had all vanished into the ether. To the rest of the world, Michael Whitaker had never existed. He was a ghost trapped inside a concrete cage.

"Times up, boy," the guard hissed, slamming the heavy plastic keyboard down and yanking the power cord from the wall.

Michael sat frozen in the dim, humming server room, a cold sweat breaking out across his forehead. He realized then that his father hadn't just destroyed his empire—he had erased his legacy.
