Chapter 7 - THE TOWER FALLSThe backlash against the Sterling family was instantaneous and apocalyptic.

Within three hours of the press conference, angry crowds gathered outside the gate of the Sterling mansion, holding signs demanding justice for Ellen Whitaker. Sponsors canceled contracts with Sterling Developments. Board members resigned en masse.
Inside the mansion, Richard Sterling was pacing his living room like a caged animal, screaming into his phone as his stock prices plummeted off a cliff.
"Sell it! Sell the Miami property! Sell the yacht!" Richard screamed, throwing a crystal decanter against the marble fireplace, shattering it into a thousand pieces. "Do whatever it takes to satisfy the bank's margin call!"
Cassandra sat on the sofa, clutching her head, crying uncontrollably. Her phone was blowing up with thousands of death threats, hate messages, and terrifying comments. Her modeling agencies had dropped her. Her high-society friends had blocked her number.
"Dad... please..." Cassandra sobbed. "Can't we leave the country? We can fly to London! We have the townhouse in Kensington!"
"There is no townhouse in Kensington!" Richard yelled, his face turning purple with rage. "Your husband’s father bought out our underlying mortgage on that property three hours ago! We are completely wiped out, Cassandra! Everything we built for thirty years is gone!"
Suddenly, heavy pounding rattled the front entrance doors.
THUD! THUD! THUD!
Richard froze. Cassandra scrambled backward on the couch in terror.
"Federal agents! Open the door!"
Richard stumbled toward the foyer, his hands trembling violently as he unlocked the heavy front doors.
Six federal agents from the IRS Criminal Investigation Division pushed past him into the marble foyer, led by a stern woman holding a federal search warrant.
"Richard Sterling?" the lead agent asked coldly.
"Yes... what is the meaning of this?" Richard stammered.
"You are under arrest for offshore tax evasion, money laundering, and bank fraud," the agent declared, pulling out handcuffs. "We have received three years of internal accounting ledgers detailing your hidden accounts in the Cayman Islands."
Richard dropped to his knees, his eyes wide with shock. "Where... where did you get those ledgers? Those were encrypted in my private server!"
The agent looked down at him with a cold expression. "They were delivered to the Department of Justice this morning by an anonymous corporate whistleblower working under the direction of Whitaker Global Enterprises."
Cassandra screamed as two female agents stepped past her father and grabbed her arms, pulling her up from the couch.
"Cassandra Sterling," the agent announced. "You are being detained as a co-conspirator in federal financial fraud and named as a primary defendant in an active criminal assault investigation."
As Cassandra was marched out of her luxury mansion in handcuffs, surrounded by flashing news cameras and screaming protestors, she looked out at the sea of press.

I didn't smile. I didn't wave. I just watched her get dragged into the back of a black police van, suffering the exact humiliation she had inflicted on my wife three days ago.
