Chapter 8 - THE JAILHOUSE REUNIONOne week later.

The holding area of the Rikers Island Correctional Facility was cold, smelling of cheap disinfectant and stale sweat.

Michael sat at a metallic table, wearing an orange jumpsuit. His eyes were bloodshot, his hair was messy, and he had lost noticeable weight. His hands were cuffed to a ring anchored in the center of the table.

The heavy steel door buzzed open, and I walked into the room.

Michael jumped up as far as his chains would allow, his face twisting into a chaotic mix of relief and terror. "Dad! Dad! Oh God, Dad, you came! You finally came!"

I pulled out a metal chair across from him and sat down smoothly, placing my hands on the table. "Sit down, Michael."

Michael collapsed back into his chair, weeping bitterly. "Dad, please... you have to get me out of here! It's horrific in here! They... they know who I am! They saw the video! The other inmates treat me like a monster! I haven't slept in four days!"

"You are a monster, Michael," I said softly, my voice devoid of any anger, which made it ten times more terrifying.

"Dad, I made a mistake!" Michael begged, leaning across the table, his chains rattling violently. "Cassandra poisoned my mind! She told me Mom was trying to sabotage our big day! She convinced me that Mom hated her! I was confused, I was stressed out!"

"Your mother spent six hours hand-stitching the pearls onto Cassandra’s veil because Cassandra claimed she couldn't find a tailor good enough," I said, eyeing him closely. "Your mother stayed up until 3:00 AM making custom centerpieces for your reception because you said your budget was tight."

Michael swallowed hard, unable to meet my eyes.

"And when she came into that corridor to bring Cassandra a cup of warm tea because she noticed her looking anxious," I continued, "you let that woman hit her. And then you put your own hands on the woman who gave you life."

"I was wrong! I'm sorry!" Michael sobbed, pounding his cuffed fists on the table. "Please, Dad! Don't abandon me! I'm your only son! Who will take over your legacy? Who will inherit the family name?!"

I leaned forward, looking into his eyes with absolute clarity.

"Yesterday morning, I officially executed an amendment to the family trust," I said calmly. "Every asset, every building, every dollar of the Whitaker estate—valued at roughly $420 million—has been legally transferred into an irrevocable charitable foundation managed by your mother."

Michael froze. His weeping stopped abruptly. "What?"

"You get nothing, Michael," I whispered. "Not a single penny. Not a single piece of property. When you complete your federal prison sentence seven to ten years from now, you will walk out into the world with zero funds, a felony record, and a name that is universally despised."

"You... you can't do this to me!" Michael suddenly screamed, his face turning red with rage, dropping his pathetic victim act entirely. "I'm a Whitaker! I deserve that money! You built that empire for ME!"

"I built that empire for a son," I said, standing up and buttoning my suit jacket. "Not for a cowardly violent sociopath."

I turned my back on him and walked toward the heavy steel door.

"DAD! DON'T LEAVE ME! DAD! COME BACK!" Michael screamed, thrashing against his metal chains, his frantic cries echoing off the concrete walls as the steel door slammed shut between us.
