Chapter 7 - The Awakening of the Beast

Victor’s face drained of all color as the massive truck ground to a halt just ten feet away. The driver’s side door swung open, and Adrian Vale stepped down onto the concrete floor.
He looked pale, and his left shoulder was heavily wrapped beneath his coat, but the aura of absolute, terrifying authority radiating from him made the armed guards lower their weapons instinctively.
"You look surprised to see me, Victor," Adrian said, his voice a low, gravelly whisper that cut through the cavernous room like a razor blade.
"You should be dead," Victor stammered, raising his pistol higher, though his hand was shaking uncontrollably. "The neurotoxin... the surgery... it was foolproof!"
"Your science is sloppy, Victor," Adrian said, taking a slow, deliberate step forward. Every movement was calculated, cold, and predatory. "And your men lack imagination."
Victor glanced frantically at his guards. "Shoot him! Kill them all!"
None of them moved. They had spent years working in the underworld, and they knew the golden rule of the Boston syndicate: Never draw on Adrian Vale unless you are certain his heart has stopped beating.
Mason stepped out from the vault doorway, tossing the lead canister of palladium isotope into the air and catching it effortlessly. "The shipment has arrived, boss. Dr. Brooks is already prepping the synthesis lab back at the hospital."
Adrian didn't break eye contact with Victor. He walked right past the trembling syndicate boss, stopping only when he was inches away. The height difference was intimidating, but it was Adrian’s dead-eyed stare that broke Victor completely.
"You touched my people," Adrian whispered, the words carrying a weight so heavy it felt like physical pressure.
"Your... your people?" Victor laughed nervously. "She’s just a housekeeper—"
Adrian’s fist moved so fast it created a blur in the air. The punch caught Victor squarely on the jaw, sending the older man crashing backward onto the concrete floor with a sickening crunch of breaking teeth.
"She saved my life," Adrian said coldly, turning his back on the groaning man. "Which makes her family. And in my world, family is untouchable."

He turned his gaze toward Clara, who stood holding the lead canister, her posture straight and unbroken despite the chaos around them. For a long, quiet moment, the two of them just looked at each other amidst the wreckage of the laboratory.
"Let's go home," Adrian said softly, his voice softening just a fraction. "Lily is waiting."
