Chapter 17 - Dawn Over the SoundThe grey, relentless light of a Seattle dawn was breaking over Elliott Bay as Gideon’s armored sedan tore through the deserted off-ramp of the Alaskan Way Viaduct.

Inside the vehicle, the silence was absolute save for the hum of the engine and the steady, rhythmic clicking of Sienna’s tablet as she monitored the encrypted satellite feeds from the store.
Ren sat in the back seat between Gideon and Nova, her head resting against Gideon’s shoulder, her eyes closed. Nova was curled up in the corner, fast asleep, her mustard yellow beanie pulled down over her forehead—a habit she still clung to whenever the world felt too loud.
"The federal marshals raided the Hail & Hearth gallery twenty minutes ago," Sienna announced quietly from the front passenger seat, not turning around. "Arthur Pendelton and his strike team were apprehended before they could escape through the utility tunnels. The Department of Justice has formally seized The Ledger of Nine’s primary server architecture under emergency national security protocols."
Gideon didn't say anything immediately. He looked down at Ren, watching the steady, peaceful rise and fall of her chest. The nightmare was over—at least for now. The corporate ghosts, the dark-net consortium, the phantom father who had tried to sell their lives before they could even spell their own names—all of it had been crushed under the weight of the law and the unyielding protection of a man who had finally learned what it meant to choose love over control.
"Are we safe now, Gideon?" Ren whispered, her eyes opening slowly, reflecting the pale morning light of the bay.
Gideon kissed the top of her head, his voice steady, warm, and absolute.
May you like
"You've always been safe, Ren," Gideon said softly. "And nobody is ever taking you away from here."
Ren gave a small, contented sigh, closing her eyes again as she gripped the sleeve of his coat tightly in her fist.
