Chapter 27 - The Unwritten ChapterThe rain began again that evening—that steady, familiar Seattle drizzle that turned the downtown asphalt into a sheet of shimmering mirrors under the amber streetlights.

Gideon sat in his leather armchair by the grand fireplace in the penthouse, watching the orange flames lick against the brick hearth. The penthouse was quiet, save for the soft clack of keys from the study where Ren and Nova were finalizing their foundation’s open-source security protocol before releasing it to the public domain.

The intercom on his side table chimed softly.

Gideon pressed the receiver. "Hail residence."

"Mr. Hail," the crisp, professional voice of the building’s night concierge said. "There’s a young woman downstairs in the lobby asking to speak with you. She doesn't have an appointment, but she insisted her name was relevant to your past."

Gideon’s eyebrows drew together. "Did she give a name?"

"Yes, sir. She said her name is Clara Vance."

The air in the penthouse seemed to freeze instantly. Gideon stood up from his chair, his mind racing through every known biological descendant, every hidden cell of the shattered syndicate. Clara Vance. Marcus Vance’s eldest daughter—the one federal investigators had assumed lost in the Swiss Alps fifteen years ago.

"Send her up," Gideon said, his voice hard as iron. "And notify the private security detail to maintain station in the hallway."

Five minutes later, the private elevator chimed.

A young woman in her early twenties stepped into the foyer. She wore a simple, wet trench coat, her dark hair plastered against her cheeks by the rain, her eyes wide, exhausted, and desperately familiar. She looked like Ren would have looked if she had grown up running through European train stations instead of Seattle alleys.

"Mr. Hail," Clara whispered, her lower lip trembling as she clutched a worn leather journal against her chest. "I didn't come to finish what my father started. I came... because I finally ran out of places to hide."
