CHAPTER 4 – The Secret Buried Beneath Her Name

The theater lights flickered.

Children cried.

Teachers desperately tried to shield the students as armed men poured through every exit.

Emily stood frozen.

Her grandfather had never looked afraid before.

But now...

His hands were shaking.

The man on the balcony smiled as if he had already won.

"Tell her the truth, Daniel."

The old man slowly turned toward Emily.

"I wanted you to have a normal life."

Emily's voice cracked.

"What truth?"

Before he could answer, the commander fired a shot toward the balcony.

The bullet shattered the railing...

But the traitor was already gone.

Only his laughter echoed through the smoke.

"Find the girl!"

The armed men rushed forward.

The commander barked orders.

"Protect Emily! Nobody gets close to her!"

A brutal gunfight erupted inside the theater.

Parents screamed.

Children hid beneath the seats.

The old man grabbed Emily's hand and led her beneath the stage through a narrow maintenance tunnel.

She had never known it existed.

"Grandpa... where are we going?"

"Somewhere your mother once hid."

They reached a rusted steel door hidden behind old stage equipment.

The old man entered a six-digit code.

Nothing happened.

He looked at Emily.

"Your birthday."

She entered the numbers.

The massive door unlocked with a deep metallic rumble.

Inside was a hidden underground vault.

Rows of computers lit up automatically.

Maps.

Encrypted files.

Satellite images.

And in the center of the room...

A single glass case.

Inside rested an old leather journal.

Its cover bore the same black snake symbol tattooed on the fake police officer's wrist.

Emily carefully opened it.

The first page made her blood run cold.

A family photograph.

Her grandfather.

Her mother.

And the smiling man everyone believed had died twenty years ago.

The caption beneath the picture read:

"The Founders of Project Genesis."

Emily looked up in disbelief.

"You knew him..."

The old man lowered his head.

"He wasn't just my partner."

"He was my brother."

Before Emily could process the revelation, one of the computer monitors suddenly came to life.

A live security feed.

The commander was fighting alone outside the vault entrance.

One by one, his agents were falling.

Then a new figure stepped out of the shadows.

A woman dressed entirely in black.

She removed her hood.

The old man staggered backward.

"No..."

Emily frowned.

"Who is she?"

Tears filled the old man's eyes.

"That's impossible..."

"She died twenty-three years ago."

The woman looked directly into the hidden camera.

Then she smiled.

"Hello, Daniel."

"You've done a wonderful job raising... our daughter."

Emily felt the world stop spinning.

"Our... daughter?"

The old man couldn't answer.

Because the woman everyone believed was dead...

Was Emily's mother.

May you like

And she had just returned to take her back.
