Three months later, the private chapel at the estate was filled not with politicians or capos, but with the quiet hum of spring rain against stained glass.
There were no press cameras, no grand societal announcements, and no white silk gowns. Emma wore a sharp, tailored emerald suit that commanded the room with absolute authority. I stood beside her, no longer bound entirely to the titanium chair; my legs shook, but with Luke steadying my elbow on one side and a heavy mahogany cane in my right hand, I stood tall.
Harrington stood at the altar, sweating nervously as he flipped through the marriage registry, officiating the most legally bulletproof union in the history of Illinois corporate law.
"Do you, Daniel Vance, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded partner in business, empire, and life?" Harrington asked, his voice trembling slightly.
"I do," I said, my voice steady, echoing off the stone walls.
"And do you, Emma Carter, take this man to be your lawfully wedded partner?"
Emma turned her head, looking up at me with those clear, fierce amber eyes that had stopped a monster in his tracks six months ago.
"For richer, for poorer, and for every hostile takeover in between," she smiled. "I do."
