Chapter 20 - The Unshakable Reign
Present Day — September 2026
The global headquarters of Phoenix Global in New York City stood higher than any other skyscraper in the Manhattan skyline.
Inside the top-floor executive suite, three-year-old twins—a boy and a girl—played happily on a plush velvet carpet, building towers out of golden blocks.
Claire sat at her massive glass desk, looking at the final legal documents presented by Nathan.
"Julian Vance was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole this morning," Nathan reported smoothly. "Vanessa Vance’s sentence was extended by fifteen years for complicity in the prison break scheme. Diane Hale remains in a state psychiatric facility, completely forgotten by the world."
Claire signed her name on the final document with a custom gold fountain pen—the absolute dissolution of any remaining entity associated with the Hale family name.
"And our expansion?" Claire asked, looking up.
"Phoenix Global now controls thirty percent of global clean energy infrastructure," Nathan smiled. "Your net worth has officially surpassed fifty billion dollars. You are officially the most powerful female sovereign investor in human history."
Claire walked over to the floor-to-ceiling glass window, looking down at Manhattan. Below her, the streets where she had once been insulted, humiliated, and splashed with red wine looked so tiny, so insignificant.
She picked up her glass of sparkling water, holding it up toward the vast blue sky.
Ten years of suffering. Ten years of hiding in the shadows. Ten years of being called a "barren leech."
They had tried to destroy her, but they had only forged an empress.
