Chapter 4 - The Ultimatum BrokenThe next morning, the sun washed over the Napa Valley estate, but the atmosphere inside was stormy.

Margaret sat at the head of the breakfast table, flanked by her corporate legal counsel, looking like a queen ready to execute a treasonous subject.

Ethan walked into the dining room, his posture rigid, wearing a tailored charcoal suit. He didn't sit down. Instead, he tossed a thick manila folder directly onto the table in front of his mother.

"What is the meaning of this insolence, Ethan?" Margaret asked coldly, not bothering to look at the folder.

"That folder contains the original 1940 Carter charter, Aunt Elena's unredacted birth and exile records, and the DNA matching profiles linking Sophie and Lily directly to our bloodline," Ethan stated, his voice echoing through the room. "You didn't banish Elena because she broke corporate protocol. You stole her inheritance, and you tried to do the same to her granddaughters."

Margaret's face went chalk white. Her legal counsel quickly opened the folder, scanned the first page, and paled instantly.

"You can't prove any of this," Margaret whispered, her voice losing its terrifying edge.

"Try me in federal court," Ethan replied calmly. "Effective immediately, Sophie and Lily are legal heirs to fifty percent of the Carter estate. And you, Mother... you are stripped of your voting shares."
