Chapter 5 - The Digital Forensics Counter-Strike

At 2:00 AM, Nathan sat in his car parked three blocks away from his own house, glowing phone screen illuminating his face in the dark cabin. He was on an encrypted VoIP call with Ethan.

"She offered to accelerate the asset transfer tonight," Nathan whispered fiercely into the receiver. "Ethan, she’s rushing it. She knows the quarterly corporate audit is coming up in two weeks. If she doesn't lock down the startup shares before the valuation spike, her leverage drops to zero."

"Then we strike before the audit," Ethan’s voice came back crisp and resolute from his home setup. "Listen to me, Nathan. We can't just go to court with photos and a box of silicone. Family courts see bitter divorces every single day; a clever legal team will spin my video analysis as manipulated deepfake tech or bitter husband paranoia. We need an undeniable, in-person trap. A public checkmate."

"What do you have in mind?"

"A live ultrasound," Ethan stated simply. "Next Tuesday is your joint prenatal check-up at the city’s premier obstetrics center—the one her high-society mother insists she goes to. Vanessa has been dodging every single appointment by faking scheduling conflicts or claiming telemedicine check-ins. But this one? This is the big quarterly diagnostic scan with Dr. Harrison. Her mother is scheduled to attend."

Nathan frowned. "How are we supposed to get her to a real doctor where she can't fake it? She’ll invent a medical emergency or a sudden bout of morning sickness to bail out at the last second."

"That’s why we control the variables," Ethan replied, a wicked edge of technical genius creeping into his tone. "I’ve spent the last four hours hacking into the local medical network’s scheduling portal through a secure diagnostic vulnerability. I’ve intercepted Dr. Harrison’s calendar. Next Tuesday at 10:00 AM, you aren't going to her regular clinic. You’re going to a private surgical suite at St. Jude’s Hospital—one where I’ve arranged for a specialist team to be waiting, disguised as routine staff."

"And Vanessa?"

"She thinks she's walking into a routine scan where she can flash a pre-recorded fake sonogram video on a loop through an auxiliary monitor input," Ethan said smoothly. "Except, when Dr. Harrison applies the ultrasound wand to her stomach... there won't be any gel. There won't be any transducer signal. Just a solid, unyielding sheet of medical-grade silicone on live hospital closed-circuit television, broadcast directly to every screen in the executive boardroom where your company’s board of directors and her divorce lawyers are currently meeting to review the asset transfer."

Nathan stared out the windshield into the rainy night, a slow, dark smile spreading across his face.

"Let's checkmate the queen."
