Chapter 6 - The Maid's LegacyMy breath caught in my throat. "My father? He was a failed accountant! He died in debt!"

"Your father wasn't an accountant, Clara," Lorenzo confessed, taking my hands in his. "He was Nicholas Bell—the chief financial architect for the entire International Syndicate. Before he disappeared, he encrypted four billion dollars of stolen Bratva money into a cold-storage crypto wallet."

The room seemed to spin around me.

"The debts... the loan sharks..." I stuttered, my mind racing. "It was all a cover?"

"He hid you in plain sight," Lorenzo explained. "He sent you to my estate three years ago because he knew my territory was the only place Viktor Volkov wouldn't dare invade. The key to that four billion dollars isn't a password, Clara. It's encoded in your DNA."

The radio crackled again. "Ten minutes, Lorenzo!" Viktor Volkov’s voice laughed over the speaker. "Hand over Nicholas Bell's daughter, or we burn every living soul on that property!"

I stood there, paralyzed by the weight of a secret I had carried without ever knowing it. I wasn't just an orphan. I wasn't just a maid. I was the key to a global criminal fortune.

Lorenzo grabbed my shoulders, pulling me close until his forehead pressed against mine.

"Listen to me, Clara," he said, his voice deep, strong, and unwavering. "I don't care about the four billion dollars. I don't care about Volkov. I care about you. I will destroy this entire city before I let that bastard lay a finger on you."

"We can't fight twenty armored SUVs, Lorenzo," I said, tears leaking from under my lace mask. "Your men are exhausted, the mansion is compromised, and Caldwell is useless."

"We don't fight them alone," Lorenzo said, a dangerous spark flashing in his eyes. He walked over to the main control panel inside the vault and picked up a red telephone that sat inside a sealed glass case. He smashed the glass and lifted the receiver.

"Who are you calling?" I asked.

"The one man Viktor Volkov fears more than me," Lorenzo answered as the call connected.

"Speaking," a deep, gravelly voice answered on the line.

"Dominic," Lorenzo said coldly. "The Bratva is on my front lawn. I need the Ghost Fleet. Now."

There was a brief pause on the line, followed by a dark laugh. "It will cost you half of Chicago, Lorenzo."

"You can have Chicago," Lorenzo declared, looking directly into my eyes. "I'm retiring."

Ten seconds later, the sky above the Moretti estate exploded with the deafening roar of tactical military helicopters.

Through the vault's monitor screens, we watched as five blacked-out stealth helicopters descended over the estate grounds. Dozens of elite, heavily armed mercenaries wearing night-vision gear rappelled down onto the roof and grounds, opening fire on Volkov's Russian troops with devastating firepower!

"What is that?!" I gasped.

"The Ghost Syndicate," Lorenzo explained, picking up a heavy tactical rifle from the wall. "My private army. I kept them in reserve for the day the world came for me. Now, Clara... it's time to end this war."

We marched out of the vault, flanked by Lorenzo’s top remaining loyalists. The hallways of the estate had become an inferno of gunfire, smoke, and shouting.

We fought our way down to the grand courtyard where Viktor Volkov's main command vehicle—a massive, bulletproof black armored truck—was parked right in front of the fountain.

Volkov stepped out of the vehicle, surrounded by four heavily armed bodyguards. He was a giant of a man, covered in Siberian prison tattoos, holding a golden AK-47.

"MORETTI!" Volkov roared over the sound of helicopter blades and gunfire. "You bleed for a girl who isn't even yours!"

Lorenzo stepped into the center of the courtyard, rain and fire reflecting off his charcoal suit. I stood right by his side, my SMG raised, my emerald dress soaked in water and blood.

"She isn't just a girl, Viktor," Lorenzo called back, his voice echoing off the stone walls. "She is the Don of Chicago."

Volkov sneered. "Kill them!"

Before Volkov's guards could raise their rifles, a red laser dot appeared precisely on Volkov's forehead. Then another. And another.

Dozens of sniper lasers from the roof pinpointed Volkov and his men.

Volkov froze, realizing he was utterly outmatched. His hands twitched on his golden rifle.

"Drop the weapon, Viktor," I said, stepping forward, taking off my Venetian mask and letting it drop into the mud. My eyes locked onto the man who had ordered my father's death. "Or I will personally delete the four billion dollars before you take your next breath."

Volkov stared at me, seeing my father's eyes in mine. The fear in his face was glorious.

Slowly, carefully, Volkov dropped his golden AK-47 into the mud. His bodyguards dropped theirs immediately after.

"Smart choice," Lorenzo murmured.

Lorenzo walked up to Volkov, pulled a small hand-gun from his belt, and without a single word of grandstanding, shot Volkov directly through the heart.

The head of the Russian Bratva fell dead into the courtyard fountain, his blood staining the water crimson.

Silence settled over the estate as the remaining Russian troops surrendered to the Ghost Syndicate.

The battle was over. The estate was saved.
