Chapter 7 - The Unbreakable VowThree days later.

The wreckage of the Moretti estate was being cleared away by teams of contractors. The media reported the event as a massive gas explosion at a private estate, with corrupt officials quickly hushing up the truth under Lorenzo's immense political influence.

Upstairs in the master suite, the morning sun poured through the massive floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Lake Michigan.

I sat at the mahogany vanity table, wearing a simple white silk robe. The bruises on my skin were fading, but the memory of those six hours in the cold medical wing was burned into my soul forever.

The door softly opened. Lorenzo walked in.

He had shed his heavy tactical gear and tailored suits, wearing an open-collared black shirt. He looked refreshed, powerful, but his eyes held a softness that was reserved for me alone.

He walked over, standing behind my chair, placing his large hands gently on my shoulders.

"The money has been transferred," Lorenzo said softly. "The four billion dollars from your father's account... I had my bankers transfer it into an untraceable trust under your name. You are officially one of the wealthiest women in North America, Clara."

I looked at his reflection in the mirror. "I don't care about the four billion dollars, Lorenzo. I never wanted wealth."

"I know," he murmured, leaning down to kiss the top of my head. "What do you want, Clara?"

I turned around in the chair, looking up into his dark, beautiful eyes.

"I want the man who promised me I would never have to make myself smaller again," I said softly.

Lorenzo’s face softened completely. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. He didn't drop to one knee like a conventional man; he stood before me as an absolute monarch offering his entire world.

He opened the box. Inside rested a breathtaking ring—a rare blue diamond set in platinum, surrounded by smaller black diamonds.

"This empire was built on blood and lies, Clara," Lorenzo said, his voice thick with raw emotion. "I was a dead man until you laid on that cold table and breathed life back into my chest. My heart belongs to you. Not to Chicago. Not to the Syndicate. To you."

"Lorenzo..." I gasped, my eyes brimming with happy tears.

"Will you rule this city by my side?" he asked softly. "Or, if you say the word, we walk away from it all today. Leave the empire behind and start a life where no one will ever hunt us again."

I stood up, wrapping my arms around his neck, pulling his lips down to mine. The kiss was deep, passionate, and full of the fierce heat that had brought us through the gates of hell.

When we finally pulled apart, I looked him in the eye and smiled.

"We aren't walking away, Lorenzo," I said, my voice full of absolute certainty. "We are going to build something new. Together."

He slipped the blue diamond ring onto my finger. It fit perfectly.

"Then let's go announce it to the family," Lorenzo smiled, offering me his arm.

We walked hand-in-hand down the grand marble staircase to the newly restored main hall, where fifty Capos and high-ranking lieutenants from across the country were assembled, waiting in silence.

Capo Frank stepped forward, bowing his head respectfully. "Don Lorenzo. We await your orders for the reorganization of the territories."

Lorenzo stepped forward, clutching my hand tightly for all to see.

"The territories are reorganized," Lorenzo announced, his voice echoing with undisputed authority. "From this day forward, every order given by Clara Bell carries the same weight as my own. Anyone who disrespects her, disrespects me. Anyone who disobeys her... dies."

The Capos didn't hesitate. They bowed their heads in unified respect. "Yes, Don Moretti. Yes, Lady Clara."

Everything seemed perfect. The traitor was dead, the Russians were defeated, and the timid maid was now the most powerful woman in the criminal underworld.

Until six months later.
