Chapter 5 - THE BLOODLINE LEDGER — THE DNA TEST THAT CHANGED EVERYTHINGRuby ran until her lungs burned, her heart hammering against her ribs like a sledgehammer. She burst out of the dark shipping docks onto the bustling avenue, the bright neon city lights blinding her.

Directly across the street, a fleet of high-end black tactical vehicles pulled up to the curb, sirens blaring. Doors flew open, and dozen heavily armed operatives wearing blue armbands marked GRAVES SECURITY poured out, surrounding the perimeter.
A tall, formidable woman in a tactical vest stepped out of the lead vehicle. It was Chief Director Vance’s second-in-command, Agent Sarah Cole.
"Ruby!" Sarah called out, lowering her weapon and kneeling down as she spotted the young girl. "Nathaniel sent us! The beacon signal led us right to you!"
"Mr. Graves is back there!" Ruby sobbed, pointing toward the docks. "The man in the gray suit is trying to hurt him!"
"Team 2 and Team 3, move in!" Sarah ordered into her shoulder radio. "Provide heavy fire support for Mr. Graves! Secure the VIP!"
Within minutes, heavy gunfire echoed from the docks, followed by the sound of screeching tires as Victor Sterling’s forces retreated into the night.
Nathaniel emerged from the shadows of the container yard, his jacket torn and blood trickling from a minor graze on his temple, but his eyes were blazing with cold fury.
He walked straight to Sarah’s command vehicle, where Ruby was wrapped in a thermal blanket.
"Is she safe?" Nathaniel asked, breathing heavily.
"She's unharmed, sir," Sarah replied. She held up a small, handheld medical scanner. "While we waited, I ran a rapid buccal swab protocol as you instructed over the secure line."
Nathaniel stopped in his tracks. His hand trembled as Sarah handed him a digital tablet displaying the real-time processing results.
The screen flashed bright green:
DNA MATCH CONFIRMED SUBJECT A: NATHANIEL GRAVES
SUBJECT B: RUBY VANCE (GRAVES)
RELATIONSHIP: BIOLOGICAL FATHER / DAUGHTER (99.998% MATCH)
Nathaniel fell to his knees beside the SUV. He looked at Ruby, his eyes brimming with unshed tears.
"Eight years..." he choked out, touching her small hand. "You were born eight years ago... after the explosion. She hid you to protect you."
Ruby looked at the tablet, then at the powerful billionaire crying in front of her. "You're... my dad?"
"Yes, my sweet girl," Nathaniel whispered, holding her hand tightly. "I am your father. And I promise you, no one will ever hurt you or your mother again."
Suddenly, Sarah’s tactical radio crackled with static.
"Director Graves! We have breached the residence at 412 Aldridge Street! The apartment is clear of hostiles, but we found a survivor locked in the sub-basement safe room!"

Nathaniel stood up instantly. "Is it Clara?!"
"Sir... it's her. But she's injured. And she has a message for you. She says: 'Tell Nathaniel the clock strikes twelve at Hollow Creek.'"
