Chapter 6 - THE SHADOW BOARD UNMASKED — THE MAN WHO STOLE A LEGACYThe armored convoy roared down the highway toward the northern outskirts of the city, tearing through the rain-slicked night toward an abandoned estate nestled deep within the dense woods of Hollow Creek.
Inside the command vehicle, Nathaniel held Ruby close as Sarah Cole briefed them on the encrypted files recovered from the microchip in the wallet.
"It wasn't just Victor Sterling," Sarah explained, swiping through digital documents on the display. "Sterling was just the banker. The man who organized the hit twelve years ago—the man who signed the order to liquidate your family's assets—was inside your own inner circle."
Nathaniel’s jaw clenched. "Richard Croft."
"Your Chief Legal Counsel," Sarah confirmed. "Croft has been secretly draining Graves Energy’s offshore reserves for over a decade. When your wife, Eleanor, discovered his embezzlement twelve years ago, Croft attempted to assassinate her. She survived, faked her death, and went into hiding under the identity of Clara Vance to protect her unborn child—Ruby."
"Why did she surface now?" Nathaniel asked.
"Because twelve years is the legal statute of limitations for corporate treason under state law," Sarah revealed. "At midnight tonight—less than forty minutes away—Croft’s fraudulent seizure of your family shares becomes legally permanent and irreversible. If Eleanor didn't produce the original physical ledger tonight, Croft would officially own 51% of Graves Energy."
Ruby squeezed Nathaniel’s hand. "Mom kept a big iron box under her bed. She told me never, ever to touch it unless she said the word 'Hollow Creek'."
Nathaniel looked at his daughter, amazed by her resilience. "Where is the box, Ruby?"
"It's not in the apartment," Ruby said quietly. "Mom hid it inside the old clock tower at the Hollow Creek estate... where you two first met."
Nathaniel’s eyes lit up with sudden realization. "The Grand Clock Tower of Hollow Creek Manor..."

"Sir!" the driver suddenly yelled. "Multiple heavy vehicles blocking the road ahead! We have a roadblock!"
Up ahead, two massive black armored trucks blocked the narrow forest road, their high beams blinding the convoy. Armed men in unmarked combat gear stepped into the road,RPG launchers leveled directly at Nathaniel’s SUV.
