Chapter 8 - THE TRIGGER IS PULLED — DECEIT IN THE DUST"It's over, Croft!" Nathaniel shouted, shielding Eleanor and Ruby behind him. "My security team has surrounded the perimeter! You're caught!"

"Am I?" Croft chuckled darkly. "Look at the time, Nathaniel. It is 11:50 PM. In ten minutes, the automatic legal transfer executes. The offshore accounts will clear, and I will be the majority owner of Graves Energy. Once you, your long-dead wife, and your illegitimate child are dead, there will be no one left to contest my claim."
"You forgot one thing, Croft," Eleanor said stepping forward, her voice ringing clear through the dusty hall. "The physical ledger."
Croft’s laughter vanished. His eyes narrowed. "Where is it?"
"It's inside the main gear mechanism of the clock tower," Eleanor stated, pointing up toward the giant iron gears turning behind the glass clock face. "And the only way to retrieve it without destroying the encrypted drive is with the master key."
"Give me the key!" Croft demanded, raising his gun.
"I don't have it," Eleanor replied calmly. "Ruby has it."
Croft turned his gaze to the eight-year-old girl. "Hand it over, little girl, or I will put a bullet through your father’s heart."
Ruby stood her ground, her small hands trembling inside her pockets. She looked up at the giant clock gears above, then at her mother, who gave her a subtle, knowing nod.
Ruby reached into her pocket and pulled out the small silver object Nathaniel had given her earlier—the GPS beacon—holding it up in the dim light.
"Here it is," Ruby lied, her voice steady and bold. "Come get it!"
Croft grinned greedily and stepped forward toward the edge of the catwalk, reaching out his hand. "Smart girl."
"Now, Ruby!" Eleanor shouted.
Ruby slammed the red button on the beacon.

It wasn't just a GPS beacon—it was an acoustic override trigger built by Nathaniel’s tech division.
A deafening, high-frequency sonic screech exploded from the device, echoing violently through the enclosed stone tower.
