Chapter 15 - The Unspoken Truth

The roar of the turbines seemed to fade into a hollow, ringing silence. Lorenzo looked at Isabella. Her face had gone completely pale, her lower lip trembling just slightly before she clamped it hard between her teeth.
"Isabella?" Lorenzo’s voice was barely a whisper, but it carried a weight far heavier than any threat Julian could muster.
"It was me," Isabella whispered, the words tearing out of her throat like broken glass. She lowered her gun slightly, her eyes welling with tears. "When I found out what your family was doing—the trafficking, the blood money—I couldn't live with it, Lorenzo. I tried to run. I tried to burn it all down to save our souls."
Julian grinned triumphantly. "See? She betrayed you from the start, Duca. She was going to put you behind bars for the rest of your natural life."
"And yet," Lorenzo said slowly, his voice dropping an octave as he turned his gaze back to Julian, "she was my wife. And you murdered her friends, staged her death, and hunted her like an animal for six years."
Before Julian could react, Lorenzo didn't look at Isabella—he trusted her with his life, his breath, his soul. He moved with blinding, explosive speed.

Bang.
Isabella’s gun roared first, a clean, perfect shot that blew the detonator right out of Julian’s hand, shattering the plastic and electronics into a thousand pieces. At the same time, Lorenzo lunged across the gap, tackling Julian to the wet concrete floor.
