Chapter 17 - Dawn Over the Estate

The sun was just beginning to crest over the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of amber and rose when the armored car rolled back through the gates of the Duca estate.

Marta was waiting on the front steps, sobbing uncontrollably as Lorenzo stepped out of the vehicle and handed little Emma safely back into her mother's arms. The courtyard was filled with the quiet, orderly presence of loyal guards securing the perimeter—the traitors were gone, the European board had been sent a clear, undeniable message, and the house was finally, truly secure.

That evening, the family gathered in the newly built glass conservatory. Jasmine and orchids filled the air with a sweet, calming fragrance.

Isabella sat at the piano in the corner of the room, her fingers gliding softly over the ivory keys, playing a melody that hadn't been heard in these halls for over six years. The gentle notes drifted out into the courtyard where Bruno lay sleeping peacefully by the fountain, his scarred leather collar catching the golden evening light.

Lorenzo walked up behind her, setting a glass of wine on the wooden ledge, and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close against his chest.

"Are you happy here?" he whispered against her hair.

Isabella stopped playing, resting her hands over his. A peaceful, radiant smile touched her lips. "I am home, Lorenzo. That is all that matters."
