Chapter 11 - The Phantom Shareholder

The digital bells of the global stock exchange rang out, signaling the opening bell of a high-stakes trading day. In the sleek, minimalist command center of Moretti Global Logistics, towering multi-monitor displays flashed green as their initial public offering (IPO) shattered Wall Street expectations, surging forty percent within the first ten minutes.
Maeve stood at the head of the curved glass console, her fingers flying across a mechanical keyboard as she tracked the liquidation of the syndicate’s final hidden assets. Rocco sat nearby in a high-backed leather chair, watching her with a mixture of pride and cautious vigilance.
"We have an anomaly," Maeve’s chief security analyst, a cyber-intelligence expert named Hayes, announced sharply. His fingers froze over his deck, his face draining of color.
Maeve stepped behind him, her eyes narrowing as she studied the cascade of incoming data packets. "Explain."

Rocco stood up, his cane tapping heavily against the polished concrete floor. He peered over Hayes’s shoulder, his expression turning to stone. "That pattern... I’ve seen it only once before. Thirty years ago, before your father and I consolidated the docks."
"It’s not a corporate rival," Maeve said, her voice dropping into a dangerous, icy register as she traced the encryption signatures back through the dark web. "It’s someone from the old guard who survived the purge. Someone who thinks the throne is still up for grabs."
