Chapter 9 - The Legacy Restored

Three months later, the financial pages of every major newspaper carried the same staggering headline: Moretti Global Logistics Completes Historic Corporate Restructuring, Pledges Billion-Dollar Infrastructure Fund to City Development.

Inside the penthouse office of The Gilded Vulture, the neon lights of the city pulsed against the glass windows like a heartbeat.

Rocco sat in a comfortable armchair, pouring two glasses of rare bourbon. He handed one to Maeve, who stood by the window, looking out over the sprawling empire she had successfully re-engineered into a legitimate corporate powerhouse.

"The board approved the expansion into South America this morning," Rocco said, raising his glass slightly. "Without a single dissenting vote. You've turned a syndicate built on blood and extortion into the most powerful logistics firm on the Eastern Seaboard in less than ninety days."

"It was never about destroying the empire, Rocco," Maeve said, turning to clink her glass against his. "It was about making sure it survived the people who forgot what honor meant."

Rocco took a slow sip, his eyes reflecting a deep, profound respect. "Your father would have been proud of you. He always said you had the mind of a general."

"He also said sentimentality is a weakness," Maeve replied with a faint, knowing smile.

"And is it?"

Maeve looked down at the heavy gold signet ring on her finger, remembering the cold marble floor, the scattered coins, and the battered wheelchair that had hidden a sleeping giant.

"Not always," Maeve said quietly. "Sometimes, it's the ultimate weapon."
