Chapter 7 - The Final GambitThe two security guards towered over Margaret, their heavy hands hovering just inches from her shoulders. The tension in the grand foyer was so thick it felt like lead.

Daniel remained motionless beside the dining table, his hand resting lightly on the battered leather journal belonging to Emily’s uncle. His eyes darted from Julian’s cold, confident smirk to Vanessa’s frantic, hyperventilating expression, and finally to Emily’s fearless, defiant gaze.
"Daniel," Julian urged, stepping closer with a placating smile. "Don't let sentimentality blind you. She's an outsider with a vendetta. If those documents get out to the press, the stock value of Vaughan Industries will plummet by morning. We have to protect the company."
"Protect the company," Daniel repeated softly. He picked up the leather journal, turning it over in his hands. He ran his thumb across the embossed initials on the cover: A.V.
"Yes, exactly," Vanessa chimed in, rushing to Julian's side and placing a trembling hand on his arm. "Just let the guards take her downtown, Daniel. We can sweep the rest under the rug, just like we always do."
Daniel stopped turning the journal. He slowly raised his head, looking straight at Vanessa. A cold, sardonic smile touched the corners of his lips—a smile that made the blood run cold in Vanessa's veins.
"Just like we always do," Daniel whispered. He suddenly turned his gaze to Julian. "Tell me, Julian... how did you know the documents were corporate acquisition files?"
Julian’s confident smirk faltered for a fraction of a second. "What? Well, you... you mentioned she was looking at archive records from twenty years ago."
"No," Daniel corrected smoothly, his voice rising in volume and authority as he walked around the table. "I said she accessed the restricted archive pertaining to my father's acquisitions. I didn't specify which acquisition, nor did I mention anything about pension funds or embezzlement."
Julian swallowed hard, taking a half-step back. "It... it was an obvious assumption given her family name—"
"And yet," Daniel interrupted, his eyes flashing with sudden, blinding fury, "you knew the exact nature of the missing files before I even opened the manila folder on this table."
Before Julian could scramble for an excuse, Daniel slammed his hand down on the mahogany table with a resounding crash.
"Guards!" Daniel roared.
The two private security guards hesitated, looking between Julian and Daniel.
"Stand down!" Daniel commanded, his voice echoing off the marble pillars with absolute, undeniable authority. "Drop your hands from her immediately, or you'll find yourselves joining Julian in a federal penitentiary."
The guards instantly stepped back, dropping their arms to their sides.
Vanessa screamed in sheer panic, grabbing Julian's sleeve. "Julian, do something! Make them stop!"
Julian’s polite, corporate facade completely shattered. His face twisted into a snarl of pure malice as he realized the trap had closed around him. He lunged toward his coat pocket, his hand flashing toward a concealed electronic device—evidently attempting to remotely wipe the estate’s main server.
But Daniel was faster. With athletic precision, Daniel vaulted over the edge of the dining table, tackling Julian squarely to the marble floor. The heavy crash echoed through the foyer as the two men collided, sending the crystal water pitcher shattering across the floor.
The security guards immediately swarmed them, pinning Julian flat against the marble and ripping the encrypted flash drive from his grip.
Julian thrashed beneath the guards, his face pressed against the cold stone, spitting blood and furious curses. "You think you've won, Daniel?! Your entire empire was built on fraud! Your father was just as dirty as Arthur Vance! You're going down with us!"
Daniel stood up slowly, adjusting the cuffs of his shirt. He looked down at Julian with absolute disgust, breathing heavily from the physical exertion.

"My father may have been a flawed man," Daniel said coldly, his voice echoing in the dead silence of the room. "But unlike you and Vanessa, I have the courage to face the truth and fix what was broken."
He turned his head slowly, locking eyes with Vanessa, who had collapsed onto her knees against the base of a marble pillar, sobbing uncontrollably as her elaborate web of lies completely disintegrated around her.
