Chapter 5 - The Master FileUpstairs in the ballroom, the red and blue flashing lights of police cruisers began to paint the stained-glass windows through the smoke and haze. Federal agents in tactical gear swarmed the doors, bypassing the stunned wedding guests and heading straight for the central stage where Clara stood.

But Clara wasn't watching the police arrive. Her eyes were glued to the ballroom screen, where a hidden partition of the flash drive had just unlocked itself automatically.

File Name: Genesis_FailSafe_Execution.enc

"Ma'am, you need to step away from the terminal," an FBI special agent said gently, placing a hand near her shoulder. "We've secured Mr. Vance Sr. and his wife. An ambulance is searching the sub-basement for Julian."

"Wait," Clara held up a hand, her voice icy. "Look at the time stamp on this file. It just executed three minutes ago."

The screen displayed a live line of code scrolling down at breakneck speed. It wasn't a data leak. It was a remote wipe command—targeted not at the Vance family servers, but at the neural dampening chips embedded in human hosts.

Clara’s breath hitched. A sudden, blinding flash of white light exploded behind her eyes.

Instantly, the seamless, comfortable illusion of her last four years fractured. The ballroom dissolved, replaced by a torrent of memories rushing back into her consciousness with the force of a tidal wave.

She remembered her real name: Dr. Clara Vance—no, Clara Sterling. She remembered her real parents, who hadn't died in a tragic accident, but had mysteriously vanished after refusing to sell their quantum encryption patents to Vance Biomedical. She remembered the night she was abducted from her laboratory, strapped to a table, and subjected to four months of brutal psychological restructuring designed to make her fall in love with her kidnapper’s son.

Julian wasn't just a co-conspirator. He was her jailer, her programmer, and—most terrifyingly—the man who had held the remote control to her mind.

"Clara? Are you alright?" the FBI agent asked, steadying her as her knees buckled. "You're pale. Let's get you to the medics."

"I don't need a medic," Clara whispered, her eyes burning with an incandescent fury that transcended human emotion. "I need my laptop. And I need access to the Vance global mainframe."
