Chapter 2 - THE REPLAY OF A MASTERMIND’S RUINThe living room of the Howard mansion felt less like a family room and more like an interrogation chamber under a magnifying glass.

Elena was no longer lying on the floor. Supported gently by two female paramedics who had arrived moments later, she sat upright on the velvet sofa, sipping warm water. The fake pale pallor was gone, replaced by a cool, lethal composure that made even Detective Ruiz look at her with newfound respect.
Across the room, Vanessa was pinned to an armchair by two police officers, though they hadn't even needed to put handcuffs on her yet—she was entirely paralyzed by shock.
"Play it again, Detective," Elena requested, her voice steady, carrying an icy authority that silenced every murmur in the room.
Detective Ruiz tapped the screen, and the tablet broadcasted the footage once more. It wasn't just the clip of Vanessa plotting in the hallway; it was the entire sequence. Every single word Vanessa had muttered to herself while pacing the upper landing, every smug smirk, and every calculated step she took right before she lunged at Elena was captured in sweeping 4K resolution.
Mr. Howard stared at the screen, his chest heaving. The betrayal hit him like a physical blow. "Vanessa... We took you in. You were my late brother's daughter. I trusted you with this house, with our lives..."
"Uncle Richard, please!" Vanessa shrieked, finally breaking her catatonic state. She lunged forward, ignoring the officers as she clawed at the air toward him. "It’s fake! That-that's AI! Deepfake technology! She set me up! Look at her, she’s not even hurt! She planned this to frame me so she could keep the entire estate for her unborn child!"
"AI?" Elena tilted her head, a cold, humorless smile touching the corners of her lips. She set her teacup down with a sharp clink that made everyone flinch. "Vanessa, do you really think my husband's multi-million-dollar security system runs on consumer-grade software that can be manipulated by a third-rate amateur?"
Elena stood up, smoothing down her cardigan. "You forgot something fundamental about this house, Vanessa. When Richard and I updated the architecture last year, we didn't just install cameras for safety. We integrated a decentralized, encrypted black-box server. Every whisper in this mansion is automatically cross-referenced with biometric heat signatures and voice prints. There is no editing this. There is no faking it."
Vanessa’s breath hitched. Her eyes darted wildly around the room, searching for an exit, a sympathetic face, a miracle. But there was only stone-cold reality staring back at her.

"And that," Detective Ruiz added, slipping a pair of cold steel cuffs onto Vanessa’s wrists, "is why attempted premeditated murder of an expectant mother carries a lifetime sentence without parole. You have the right to remain silent, Vanessa Howard. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."
As the metallic click of the handcuffs echoed through the grand room, Vanessa realized the terrifying truth: she hadn't pushed Elena down the stairs. She had pushed herself straight into an inescapable cage.
