Chapter 5 - THE GAME OF CAT AND MOUSE IN THE MANSIONThe air in the study grew heavy, charged with a silent, lethal tension. Elena didn't panic. She had anticipated betrayal, but she hadn't expected the rot to run this deep into the core of the estate's operations.

"You're forgetting one very important detail, Marcus," Elena said softly, leaning back into her chair.

Marcus raised an eyebrow, amused. "And what's that, my dear? The police are gone. Your husband is sleeping upstairs, heavily sedated by a sleeping draft I personally prepared for him. There is no one coming to save you this time."

"The police aren't the only ones with records," Elena replied, tapping her left index finger against her wedding ring. Embedded in the platinum band was a microscopic satellite transmitter—a backup panic device connected directly to her father's private security firm overseas.

"Every word you've just said," Elena continued, her voice steady as a rock, "has been broadcasting via encrypted satellite feed to a legal team in Geneva for the last four minutes."

Marcus’s calm facade finally shattered. The color drained from his face as he lunged forward across the desk, his hand shooting out to grab Elena by the collar of her blouse. "Give me the override key! Turn off the transmission right now, or I swear to God, this house will become your tomb!"

Elena didn't flinch. Instead, she looked him dead in the eye and smiled. "You're too late, Marcus. The transmission is already verified and locked."

Before Marcus could react, a deafening crash echoed from the front of the mansion. The reinforced glass of the ground-floor conservatory shattered into a thousand glittering pieces. Heavy boots hit the hardwood floor, followed by a crisp, authoritative shout:

"Federal agents! Federal Police! Secure the perimeter, nobody moves!"

Marcus spun around toward the doorway, sheer panic taking over his features. He dropped his grip on Elena and bolted toward the private service exit behind the bookshelves, desperate to vanish into the night.

"Don't let him reach the tunnel!" Elena yelled, her voice cutting through the chaos as she stood up from her desk, watching the master manipulator run for his life.
