Chapter 7 - The Final Confession

Deep in the subterranean holding facility of the hotel, the air was cold and smelled of damp concrete and metallic fear.

Julian paced frantically inside the reinforced glass cell, his tuxedo disheveled, his hands bruised from the zip-ties. Outside the cell, Beatrice sat slumped in a plastic chair, staring blankly at the floor, her empire reduced to dust in less than an hour.

The heavy steel door at the end of the corridor clanked open.

Heels clicked sharply against the floor. Elena walked down the corridor alone, her crimson suit striking against the drab industrial gray of the holding area. She stopped in front of Julian’s cell, looking at him through the reinforced glass.

"Elena!" Julian rushed to the glass, pressing his face against it, his eyes wide with a desperate, pathetic pleading. "Elena, please! We were married! We shared a bed! You can't do this to me! Think of the baby—your child needs a father!"

"My child needs protection from monsters," Elena replied, her voice completely devoid of warmth. "Just like my father did."

Julian froze. Color drained entirely from his face. "What... what do you mean?"

"The coroner's report on my father's car crash just cleared my desk," Elena said quietly, stepping closer to the glass. "The severed brake lines, Julian. Your signature on the mechanic's invoice. You didn't just want my money—you murdered my father to get your hands on the trust early so you could fund your illegal offshore gambling debts."

"It was a lie! That's fabricated!" Julian screamed, pounding his fists against the glass. "Mother, tell her! Tell her it's a lie!"

Beatrice didn't look up. She only whispered, her voice broken: "We were careless, Julian. We underestimated her. Just like we underestimated Arthur."

Elena turned her gaze from Julian to Beatrice, offering a small, chilling smile.

"Enjoy your stay here," Elena said softly, turning her back on them. "The federal prosecutors are already reviewing the files. You’ll have plenty of time to contemplate your greed behind bars."
