Chapter 2 - THE MORNING OF RECKONING

By 7:00 AM, the luxury high-rise apartment Vanessa shared with her family was in complete chaos.

The loud pounding on the double oak doors woke her from a sleepless night. Her father, Richard, was standing in the living room in his silk robe, his face pale as chalk as he stared at his ringing phone.

"Father? What's going on?" Vanessa asked, wrapping her designer robe around her shivering frame.

"We're ruined," Richard stammered, dropping the phone. "The bank just frozen all our corporate accounts. The bailiffs are downstairs. Every contract our firm had signed for the next five years was canceled thirty minutes ago."

Before Vanessa could process her father's words, the door burst open. Marcus Thornton stepped inside, looking frantic, his hair disheveled and his designer suit rumpled.

"Vanessa! What did you do?!" Marcus roared, grabbing her by the shoulders.

"What are you talking about?!" she cried out, pulling away.

"My father just removed me from the family trust!" Marcus screamed, his eyes bloodshot. "He got a call from the Vance Consortium. They told him that if he didn't strip me of every cent and kick me out of the company by noon, they would liquidate Thornton Industries! What did you do to Andrew Vance?!"

The truth hit Vanessa like a physical blow. The quiet, patient man who used to make her coffee every morning and listen to her complain about high society wasn't just wealthy—he was a god in their world. And she had slapped his hand away.

Suddenly, Vanessa’s phone buzzed. It was an anonymous text message containing an address and a single sentence:

> "If you want to save your family, come to the Grand Regency Ballroom at 3:00 PM. Dress well. You are performing."
