Chapter 3 - THE GOLDEN CAGE

The Grand Regency Ballroom was the crown jewel of the city's high society, reserved only for state dinners and billionaire galas. When Vanessa arrived, dressed in a sleek black gown with red eyes hidden behind oversized sunglasses, the doors opened automatically.

The vast room was empty, save for a single grand piano sitting in the center under a glittering crystal chandelier.

Andrew stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, overlooking the sprawling skyline of the city. He wore a bespoke charcoal suit that radiated absolute authority.

"Andrew..." Vanessa’s voice trembled as her heels echoed across the marble floor. "Please... my father had nothing to do with this. Marcus had nothing to do with this. I was the arrogant one. Punish me, not them."

Andrew didn't turn around immediately. He poured a glass of scotch, the ice clinking against the glass—a sound that made Vanessa flinch, instantly remembering the restaurant.

"You always spoke about class, Vanessa," Andrew said softly, turning to face her. His eyes were cold, calculating, and devoid of the warmth she had taken for granted for months. "You told me at dinner last night that I lacked the pedigree to stand by your side. You said I was just a ghost in your world."

"I was wrong! I was blind!" Vanessa pleaded, taking a step forward, dropping to her knees on the hard floor. "I’ll do anything. Just lift the sanctions on my family."

Andrew walked over to her, his polished shoes stopping inches from her trembling hands.

"Play," he ordered, pointing toward the grand piano.

Vanessa blinked back tears. "What?"

May you like

"You pride yourself on your classical music training, don't you? You boasted to your friends that you were an artist, while I was just a desk worker," Andrew said, his voice flat. "Play for me. If you play well enough to entertain me, I might leave your father with enough money to buy a two-bedroom apartment."

Vanessa bit her lip so hard it bled. Humiliation burned in her chest, but she had no choice. She rose, walked over to the piano, and sat on the bench. Her hands shook as her fingers touched the ivory keys.
