Chapter 4 - THE PRICE OF SURVIVAL

Vanessa began to play Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. Her tears fell onto the polished wood of the piano as the sad melody filled the empty hall.

Andrew stood by the window, sipping his drink, watching her through the reflection in the glass. He didn't interrupt. He let the music play until the final note echoed into nothingness.

Silence settled over the room once more.

"Not bad," Andrew said calmly, setting his glass down. "Your technique is flawless, Vanessa. But your heart is completely hollow."

"Is that enough?" she choked out, looking up at him desperately. "Will you spare my family now?"

Andrew walked back toward her, pulling a thick envelope from his inner jacket pocket and tossing it onto the piano keys.

"In that envelope is a contract," Andrew said. "Your family's debts will be absorbed by Vance Global. Your father will retain his title, though he will no longer hold voting rights in his own company."

Vanessa gasped. "You’re buying us out?"

"I’m saving you from the street," Andrew corrected her harshly. "But there is a condition."

"What condition?"

"You will work for me," Andrew said, leaning down until his face was inches from hers. "Not as my wife. Not as my girlfriend. You will be my personal executive assistant for the next three years. You will attend every gala, every dinner, and every meeting by my side. You will watch me build empires, and you will bow to every command I give."

Vanessa’s heart sank. He wasn't killing her; he was locking her in a golden cage, forcing her to witness his greatness every single day while reminding her of what she lost.

"And if I say no?" she whispered.

Andrew smiled—a cold, terrifying smile. "Then by 5:00 PM, your family files for bankruptcy, and Marcus Thornton goes to prison for corporate fraud. I have his offshore bank records, Vanessa. Choose."
