Chapter 16 - THE FINAL VERDICTThe federal courthouse downtown was packed to the gills with reporters, legal analysts, and curious onlookers eager to catch the final chapter of the Moretti saga.

When I walked through the double doors accompanied by Marcus and my lead counsel, camera flashes blinded me like a sudden summer lightning storm. Microphones were thrust forward, shouts echoing off the marble pillars.

“Mrs. Moretti, does the defense have any comment on Adrian’s medical condition?” “Will the child be receiving any portion of the frozen assets?”

I didn't break stride. I kept my head high, my expression serene, walking straight down the center aisle toward the heavy oak doors of the courtroom.

Inside, Judge Miller—a federal magistrate known for his unyielding integrity—sat behind the polished mahogany bench, reviewing the final petition filed by Moretti’s remaining loyalists.

"Counsel," Judge Miller’s deep voice resonated through the silent room as he looked up from the documents. "The court has reviewed the emergency petition filed on behalf of the inmate Adrian Moretti."

He paused, removing his reading glasses and looking directly at the defense table where a jittery, sweating attorney sat alone.

"The law is explicitly clear," the judge continued, his tone sharp and uncompromising. "When parental rights are legally terminated under federal statutes of terrorism, racketeering, and child endangerment, no residual biological claim can supersede the safety and welfare of the minor. Furthermore, independent DNA filings and guardian affidavits confirm that the child’s legal custody remains exclusively and permanently with her mother, Victoria Moretti."

He struck his gavel once.

Clack.

"Case dismissed with prejudice. The petition is permanently denied."

A collective gasp rippled through the gallery. Behind me, the defense attorney slumped backward in his chair, wiping sweat from his forehead.

It was over. There were no more appeals. No more loopholes. No more shadows.
