Chapter 17 - SUNSET OVER LAKE GENEVATwo weeks later, the private jet touched down softly on the tarmac in Geneva. The crisp, clean alpine air filled my lungs as I stepped down the metal stairs, the familiar, breathtaking view of the snow-capped mountains welcoming me home.

In the private vehicle waiting by the airstrip, a little voice called out before I even opened the door.

"Mama! You're back!"

The sliding door flew open, and tiny arms wrapped tightly around my waist as Elena buried her face in my coat. I dropped to my knees, hugging her fiercely, burying my face in her soft curls, breathing in her scent of vanilla and innocence.

"I missed you so much, sweetheart," I whispered, kissing her cheek again and again. "I missed you too, my little explorer."

Marcus stood nearby, holding our bags, a rare, genuine smile playing at the corners of his mouth.

"Everything is settled, boss?" he asked quietly as we climbed into the back of the car.

"Completely," I replied, looking out the window as the car began the smooth ascent toward our villa on the hillside. "The courts closed every door. We are entirely, permanently free."

As we pulled through the wrought-iron gates of our home, the golden rays of the setting sun painted the sky in brilliant shades of amber, violet, and rose.
