Chapter 5 - A New Queen Rises in Geneva

Thousands of miles away, nestled among the snow-capped peaks of the Swiss Alps, the crisp morning air carried the scent of pine and absolute freedom.
The grand lakeside estate in Geneva was a masterpiece of modern architecture and classic European elegance, boasting floor-to-ceiling glass windows that overlooked the shimmering blue expanse of Lake Geneva.
Inside the private study on the top floor, I stood by the window, adjusting the cuffs of my silk blouse, watching Lily and Maya play in the sunlit courtyard below with their new tutor and guardian dogs. They were laughing—a bright, unburdened sound that healed places in my soul I hadn't even realized were bleeding.
A soft knock sounded at the door, and Thomas Vance entered, holding a secure leather portfolio.
"Good morning, Madam Chairperson," Thomas said with a respectful bow of his head. "The international press has picked up the final liquidation details of Sterling Industries. The board of trade in London has officially suspended their trading license."
I turned around, walking over to the mahogany desk where a fresh cup of espresso waited. "And the acquisition of their primary physical assets?"
"Completed an hour ago," Thomas replied, smiling faintly. "Our holding company acquired their flagship commercial real estate downtown for pennies on the dollar. The local media is already speculating about who the mysterious new majority owner of Aethelgard Holdings is, but as per your standing order, your identity remains strictly shielded behind our Swiss corporate trust."
I took a slow sip of the espresso, letting the rich flavor settle. "Let them speculate. Mystery is a far more effective armor than celebrity."
"There is one other matter," Thomas added, hesitating slightly. "David Sterling's legal counsel has filed an emergency petition for an injunction, claiming the divorce settlement was procured under fraudulent conditions of financial concealment."
I let out a soft, elegant laugh. "Fraudulent? David signed every paper willingly while mocking me across the mediation table. He explicitly stated that the condo and the SUV were all he wanted, and that my daughters and I were nothing more than dead weight in his new life."
"Shall I have our legal team squash the petition?" Thomas asked.
"Instantly," I replied, my eyes sharpening with quiet authority. "And send a personal note from me to his bankruptcy trustee. Remind them that my former husband still owes two hundred thousand dollars in back-maintenance for the children's educational trust—a debt that is currently secured against whatever personal clothing and electronics he managed to salvage from his seized apartment."
Thomas nodded admiringly. "Consider it done, Madam. By the way, the executive board of our European division is waiting downstairs for your keynote address on the Q3 tech acquisitions. Shall I tell them you're ready?"
May you like
I straightened my jacket, walking toward the grand double doors of the study.
"Tell them," I said with a confident smile, "that the queen has arrived, and the board is now in session."
