CHAPTER 2 — The Envelope Nobody Was Supposed to Find

Captain Ethan slowly opened the old envelope.

Inside was a handwritten letter.

Not from the Army.

Not from the government.

But from... himself.

The date at the top made everyone gasp.

It had been written one week before his final mission.

His hands shook as he read the first sentence aloud.

"If you're reading this, it means they lied."

The room fell completely silent.

The next page revealed something even more shocking.

Ethan had uncovered a secret operation involving several high-ranking officials who had been selling military intelligence to a foreign organization.

His entire squad hadn't died in battle.

They had been deliberately abandoned.

Someone wanted every witness erased forever.

Then came the sentence that made Emma burst into tears.

"If I don't come home... tell our daughter Lily that every bedtime story I promised her was real."

Ethan looked at the little girl.

Fragments of forgotten memories flashed through his mind.

A tiny pink backpack.

A birthday cake.

A little girl laughing in a backyard.

Then another memory...

A woman standing beside him wearing a simple white dress.

Emma.

His wife.

His knees nearly gave out.

He whispered,

"I remember..."

Lily cried harder and hugged him tightly.

For one beautiful moment, it felt like their family had finally been reunited.

But the celebration lasted only seconds.

One of the nurses quietly backed toward the hallway.

She secretly pulled out her phone.

A single message appeared on the screen.

"He remembers. Finish the mission."

Outside the hospital...

A black SUV had already arrived.

Inside sat two men wearing expensive suits.

One smiled coldly.

"The witness survived," he said.

"The little girl wasn't supposed to find him."

As Ethan looked out the hospital window, an overwhelming feeling of danger washed over him.

He finally realized the truth.

The war had never ended.

May you like

It had simply followed him home.
