Chapter 3 - The Basement InterrogationThe lower level of the Moretti estate housed a wine cellar that doubled as a holding area for uninvited problems. The stone walls were damp, echoing with the sound of dripping water and the panicked breathing of Julian Sterling.

Julian was pushed hard against a wine rack, two armed security guards holding his arms behind his back. His expensive tuxedo jacket was torn, his hair disheveled.

When Damian walked into the cellar, the temperature in the room plummeted.

"Damian! You’re out of your mind!" Julian shrieked, struggling against the guards. "Let me go! My sister is your fiancée! When our father hears about this—"

"Your father sold his shipping shares to my competitor six months ago, Julian," Damian interrupted, his voice terrifyingly calm. He stepped up to the younger man, pulling the second memory card from his pocket and dropping it onto a wooden tasting table with a dry clack. "And you have been bleeding my legitimate infrastructure dry to pay off your debts in Atlantic City."

Julian’s face went pale as chalk. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Really?" Damian signaled to the security chief, who slammed a laptop down on the table and pressed play on a security camera feed.

The video showed Julian sneaking into the private gallery at 4:30 PM, slipping a small tracking device and a micro-transmitter behind the Moretti family portrait, and whispering into a burner phone: 'The files are secure. Once the wedding contract is signed tomorrow, we activate the transfer and strip him of his shipping majority.'

Julian stopped struggling. His knees buckled slightly, but the guards kept him upright.

"Vanessa planned it with you, didn't she?" Damian asked softly, leaning in close. "The marriage was never about an alliance. It was a hostile corporate takeover disguised as a society wedding."

"She... she loves you!" Julian stammered pathetically. "It was just leverage! We just wanted a percentage of the shipping lines—"

"You wanted my empire," Damian corrected, his voice dropping to a whisper that sent a shiver through every man in the room. "And instead, you gave me an excuse to legally, publicly, and permanently destroy your family."

Just then, heavy footsteps echoed down the stone steps.

Vanessa burst into the cellar, her designer gown sweeping the dusty floor, her face flushed with fury. "Damian! Have you lost your absolute mind? Letting your thugs manhandle my brother—"

She stopped dead in her tracks as she saw the laptop screen playing the footage.

The color drained entirely from Vanessa’s face. The imperious, untouchable society queen evaporated in a single second, replaced by a cornered animal.

"Damian," Vanessa whispered, taking a trembling step forward, her hands reaching out. "Let me explain. Julian is an idiot, he forced me—"

"Shut up, Vanessa," Damian said without looking at her. He straightened his cuffs, turning slowly to face her. "The wedding is canceled."

Vanessa froze. "You can't cancel it. The press is outside! The governor’s family is in the ballroom! My reputation—"

"Your reputation," Damian interrupted, his eyes flashing with lethal fury, "ended the moment you poured paint on an innocent woman in my house to cover up your brother's theft."

He walked past her toward the exit, pausing at the doorway.

"Throw them both in the guest quarters," Damian told the guards. "Lock the doors. At sunrise, the prosecutors get the evidence, and the media gets the press release."
