Chapter 18 - War of the Monarchs

We hit the ground running before the helicopter skids even touched the grass. Tactical gunfire erupted immediately from the shadows of the olive groves as Sofia’s mercenary squad opened fire. Dante moved with lethal efficiency, dropping three tactical shooters with precise headshots before they could react.

I moved right alongside him, ducking behind stone pillars, providing covering fire, and executing two flanking mercenaries with merciless accuracy. For the first time in five years, we weren't a husband and wife hiding secrets from each other—we were an unstoppable military unit, moving in total synchronization through a hail of lead and shattered glass.

We breached the main doors of the villa, clearing room after room until we reached the master nursery on the top floor. The heavy oak door was kicked open, and inside stood Sofia Vale, wearing a tactical vest, her gun pointed directly at the reinforced bulletproof crib where our eleven-month-old twins were crying hysterically.

"Look at the happy couple," Sofia sneered, her eyes manic and bloodshot. "The Mafia King and his manipulative little Queen. Did you really think you could erase me, Lena? Did you really think you could steal Dante’s throne and pretend you were an angel?"
