Chapter 3 - The Hidden SpineThe silence in the office was broken only by the faint hum of the computer fan and Lily’s soft, humming voice as she played with the tassels of the rug.

Nathaniel walked over to Claire, holding out the blue storybook. His expression was no longer that of a ruthless mob boss; it was the face of a grieving man who had finally found the missing piece of his shattered family.
"Claire," Nathaniel said quietly, his voice unusually gentle. "There is something still inside this book. Something Daniel managed to hide even from Grant."
Claire looked down at the book. "What do you mean?"
"Feel the spine," Nathaniel instructed, guiding her hand.
Claire pressed her fingers along the blue fabric spine of the children's storybook. Instead of the stiff cardboard and glue of a normal binding, her fingers detected a series of tiny, rigid cylindrical bumps running from top to bottom.
"It's hollow," Claire breathed.
"Not hollow," Nathaniel corrected. "Containerized."
Using a small silver pocket knife from his desk, Nathaniel carefully sliced open the bottom seam of the book’s spine.
With a soft click, a narrow, custom-milled titanium capsule slid out into his palm.
Grant raised his head, his eyes widening in sheer, unadulterated terror as he saw the capsule. "No... no, you can't open that! That’s—"
Nathaniel unscrewed the cap of the capsule.
Inside lay a micro-SD card and a folded sheet of heavy parchment bearing the official wax seal of the federal district attorney’s office, alongside a signed confession from three members of the high council implicating Grant Crowe in international arms trafficking, embezzlement, and multiple homicides.
It was the ultimate kill-switch. The document that would bring down not just Grant, but the entire corrupt faction of the syndicate that had plagued Crowe Manor from within.
"It's all here," Nathaniel whispered, reading the first few lines. "Every transaction, every offshore account, every name."
"Nathaniel," Claire said, her voice shaking as the reality of her husband’s incredible bravery finally settled over her. "Daniel... he wasn't just protecting Emily. He was protecting us, too. He knew they were hunting him."
"He was a brave man, Claire," Nathaniel said, looking directly into her eyes with deep, solemn respect. "Much braver than I ever gave him credit for. And because of him, my sister’s memory is finally cleared, and my house will be cleansed."
Nathaniel turned sharply toward Grant.
"Marcus," Nathaniel ordered coldly. "Take him to the basement vault. Call the federal prosecutor we've been quietly cooperating with. Tell him the package has been delivered, and we are ready to turn over the evidence."

"Gladly, Boss," Marcus grinned, hauling Grant up out of the chair by his shoulders.
Grant kicked and screamed as he was dragged toward the heavy oak doors, his threats echoing down the hallway until the sound was cut off by the heavy mahogany slamming shut.
